About The Position

At Philz, every new store sets the tone for the customer experience, the team experience, and the strength of our operations. We’re looking for a Field Operations Specialist based in the Los Angeles or Orange County area to deliver New Store Opening training that sets stores up for success from day one, while also helping existing stores strengthen performance and consistency over time. This role connects training with in-store execution, partnering across Operations to support stores from pre-open through long-term performance. It’s well suited for someone who thrives in the field, knows how to build capability in teams, and can turn standards into consistent execution across a growing store footprint. This role involves monthly travel in our operating markets.

Requirements

  • 2+ years in multi-unit training or L&D role
  • Direct experience supporting new store openings
  • Background in high-volume retail or food & beverage environments
  • Must reside in the Southern California market areas
  • Ability to sustain high energy across multi-week openings
  • Deep understanding of workflows, recipes, and service model
  • Ownership mindset (without role ownership): Drives outcomes while partnering across teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead all pre-opening and opening training programs for new stores using a structured, layered learning model
  • Facilitate high-impact group training and in-store coaching across all roles
  • Ensure teams achieve: Recipe accuracy and product quality standards, Service model fluency and hospitality behaviors, Workflow efficiency and drink sequencing under volume
  • Execute certifications, readiness assessments, and final calibrations
  • Partner with NSO Specialist and/or cross-functional teams to: Receive and track incoming shipments of product/supplies for store setup, Ensure stores are set to operational standards before opening, Build effective and balanced training pods to maximize the learning environment of each pod
  • Support New Stores through Onboarding & Group Training, Soft opening execution, Full-open readiness, Early volume stabilization by driving exceptional customer experience, Long-term training readiness
  • Ensure alignment with NSO success metrics: On-time opening, Full-compliance, Customer experience score and mystery shop score
  • Provide structured post-open support in the first 45+ days to ensure: Sustained product quality and service standards, Operational consistency, Training capability, Food safety standards and daily operational checklists are in place, understood, and consistently executed
  • Conduct in-field assessments of new stores (6 months open or less): Drink quality and recipe adherence, Service execution and hospitality, Front-of-house leadership effectiveness and coaching behaviors as they relate to service, quality, and operational execution
  • Partner with Area Leaders and Store Leaders to close gaps through targeted action plans
  • Coordinate with Field Directors & Area Leaders deployment into high-need or underperforming stores to: Stabilize daily operations, Rebuild training foundations, Reinforce standards, culture of feedback, and accountability to quality and service, front-of-house operations
  • Execute focused recovery initiatives, including but not limited to: Trainer Certifications, Barista certifications, Product quality and service standards retraining, Safety Training, Food Safety Training & Standards
  • Act as a trusted support partner to Area Leaders on training and performance gaps
  • Capture and document field insights, trends, and best practices
  • Provide feedback to Central Operations & Philz U to improve: Training materials, Playbooks and operating procedures, NSO process
  • Support testing and rollout of: New products, Equipment and smallwares, Operational pilots
  • Facilitate Home Office Barista training and certification programs
  • Support regional training initiatives and leadership development
  • Help ensure training consistency across markets
