About The Position

J. Benton Construction, LLC is seeking a Field Operations Co-op to gain hands-on experience supporting active construction projects in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This role provides direct exposure to Superintendents and project teams while developing real-world skills in construction management, field coordination, and project documentation. This role is best suited for students interested in field operations, superintendent support, safety, quality, daily reporting, schedule coordination, and hands-on project execution.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (required)
  • Demonstrated interest in construction management and the construction industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving abilities
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Effective time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple responsibilities

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference given to students studying Civil Engineering or a construction-related discipline
  • Previous internship experience in the construction industry strongly preferred
  • Previous work experience in the U.S. construction industry strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in administering the project safety program to help maintain a safe and healthy work environment
  • Provide technical assistance to the project team, including interpretation of contract drawings, specifications, and submittals
  • Support the Assistant Superintendent, Project Superintendent, and Project Manager with daily and weekly field operations tasks, including: Daily reports, Daily safety walks, Weekly quantity tracking, Weekly schedule updates
  • Develop an understanding of the project schedule and critical path activities
  • Review and support development of short-term work plans
  • Participate in the project quality program, including attending meetings, performing inspections, and verifying materials
