About The Position

NorthStar Energy Solutions is hiring! We are looking for a dependable Field Mechanic to support our fleet and field operations by diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting company equipment. This position works under the direction of the Equipment Superintendent and Shop Foreman and is responsible for keeping units safe, reliable, clean, and ready for use by field crews.

Requirements

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, utility equipment, small engines, or similar fleet assets.
  • Ability to safely operate repair tools, shop equipment, lifts, and support equipment.
  • Strong understanding of equipment maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repair documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and communicate repair needs clearly to supervisors.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to maintain accurate paperwork, receipts, work orders, fuel logs, and inspection records.
  • Willingness to travel to jobsite locations and support field crews as needed.
  • Commitment to safety, housekeeping, quality repairs, and doing the job right the first time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working on utility construction equipment, diesel trucks, trailers, hydraulics, aerial equipment, or DOT-regulated units.
  • CDL or ability to obtain one, if required by the position.
  • Forklift, manlift, or other equipment operation certifications.
  • Experience with DVIRs, DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, and fleet maintenance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and shop repairs on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, construction equipment, tools, and support equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues, create accurate parts requests, and complete repairs in a timely and safe manner.
  • Complete pre- and post-repair inspections to identify additional repair needs before units are returned to service.
  • Use proper PPE and follow company, customer, OSHA, DOT, and safety requirements at all times.
  • Operate shop tools, lifts, jacks, blocking, and company equipment safely and properly.
  • Report unsafe equipment, defective tooling, or unsafe working conditions to management immediately.
  • Complete accurate work orders with correct unit number, mileage/hours, date, complaint, work performed, and repair details.
  • Maintain quality control on completed repairs and verify the unit is ready to issue before returning it to service.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, including proper disposal of oil, filters, old parts, trash, floor dry, and other materials.
  • Assist with new equipment check-ins, including inspections, decals, pictures, and reporting missing information to fleet staff.
  • Follow company procedures for purchase orders, parts ordering, receipts, fuel cards, WEX logs, and P-card usage.
  • Complete DVIR/pre-trip inspections before operating units and repair any issues before use.
  • Travel to field locations as needed to support crews, make repairs, and reduce equipment downtime.
