About The Position

EXP is seeking qualified and motivated Field Materials Testing Technicians to support roadway, bridge, and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout Georgia. This position will perform field inspection, sampling, and testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete materials in accordance with GDOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific requirements. The technician will support Independent Construction Quality Assurance (ICQA), Owner Verification (OV), and related construction quality activities on transportation projects. Responsibilities include field testing, documentation, sample handling, communication with contractors and project teams, and maintaining compliance with GDOT certification and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical field activities

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1–3 years of construction materials testing experience preferred
  • GDOT Roadway Testing Technician (RTT) preferred
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician (FCON) preferred
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I preferred
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification preferred
  • GDOT QCT Level I or II preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing and inspection of construction materials including: Soils and embankment, Aggregate base and subbase, Hot mix asphalt, Portland cement concrete
  • Perform testing in accordance with GDOT, ASTM, and AASHTO procedures
  • Conduct density testing using nuclear gauge equipment
  • Asphalt and concrete coring
  • Perform concrete field testing including: Slump, Air content, Temperature, Concrete cylinder fabrication and curing
  • Obtain and transport material samples to the laboratory
  • Record testing activities, locations, stationing, quantities, weather conditions, and observations in daily reports and electronic systems
  • Coordinate with inspectors, contractors, laboratory personnel, and project managers
  • Verify testing frequencies and sampling requirements are maintained
  • Maintain field equipment in proper working condition and assist with calibration tracking
  • Support Control Point Inspections (CPIs) and construction quality documentation
  • Follow company safety policies and project-specific safety requirements
  • Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and overtime as required by construction operations
