About The Position

The Field Logistics District Manager is a critical component of Smith+Nephew’s overall US Supply Chain strategy. This role is responsible for implementing company inventory asset management policies and procedures, maximizing asset utilization, minimizing inventory/instrument investment, and maintaining accurate records of product placements. This includes the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of processes and policies with the Field Sales team. The role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the territory and/or area inventory and logistics functions, Field Logistics and Mobile Specialists. A good working knowledge of company products, operating systems, and procedures is critical.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required – major in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field is highly preferred
  • Alternative to degree - Armed Services experience, especially in a logistics or supply chain function, highly preferred
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience in a related field, e.g. Operations, Logistics, Business Analyst, Business Consultant

  • Relevant professional certifications are a plus – e.g., APICS, Six Sigma, Lean, Project Management, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns and supervises the work flow of the logistics and inventory processes to ensure compliance to established Operations Checklists and SOPs.
  • Responsible for the day to day supervision of the Inventory Specialists, Field, and Mobile Logistics Specialists in the territory sales office and/or area.
  • Responsible for the personnel and performance management of assigned employees.
  • Responsible for training of new Logistics employees; Inventory, Field, & Mobile Specialists.
  • Ensure training is continuously performed for logistics personnel and/or sales representatives on an as-needed basis on required compliance areas and day-to-day operations.
  • Assist in training on new SOPs, processes, and systems as required.
  • Provide and conduct training to support operations for other area(s) and company locations as required.
  • Ensure all product recall activity is performed immediately to ensure compliance to all required.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure verify and ensure all compliance procedures are followed.
  • Ensure consignment locations have valid consignment agreements and/or custody cards as required.
  • Perform Field Cycle Counts as required.
  • Coordinate and participate in territory physical inventories ensure all preparation guidelines are performed, conduct counts, and perform required physical inventory reconciliation.
  • Ensure minimal location/account variances and ensure adjustments (positive/negative) meet established company variance percentages and dollar amounts.
  • Perform field location/account visits/reviews to ensure consigned inventory instruments and implants are verified with account and ensure after reviews that instrument sets and implant inventory levels are correct and adjusted accordingly.
  • Reconciliation variances should be addressed with the appropriate sales representative(s) and management.
  • Perform IAP validations semi-annually and ensure all required adjustments are performed to maintain accurate IAP records.
  • Perform Instrument and implant utilization analysis to identify opportunities, inventory efficiencies with sales management and sales force.
  • Analyze inventory asset levels to maximize utilization and to provide improved sales performance providing recommendations and executing appropriate strategies.
  • Ensure compliance of company asset utilization goals and objectives.
  • Participate in the development of "Best Practices", SOPs, process improvements, system enhancements and reporting for company-wide application.
  • Partner with the sales management team, sales force and logistics management to ensure excellent sales support.
  • Provide period, quarterly and annual analysis/reporting to review set and product deployments and provide recommendations to improve asset utilization.
  • Perform analysis/reporting affecting all P&L related territory and/or area operations (i.e. Stock Withdrawal budget, freight analysis, courier usage, etc.).
  • Determine and ensure the least cost method of providing product to customer is performed. This includes MOSC, Courier and freight utilization is being monitored and reviewed each period.
  • Perform system reviews with Field Logistics Specialist to ensure excellent sales product support for surgeries and assess Kit utilization to ensure maximum utilization.
  • Track and report Memphis, West Coast and Regional Loaner usage to assess additional requirements. Additionally, perform same for District/Sales Office to ensure quality utilization assessments are performed.
  • Ensure the established Inventory and Field Checklists for daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly required activities are performed to ensure all tasks/duties are being performed by all logistics/operations staff.
  • Always maintain Operational Audit readiness.
