Field Installation Engineer - Region: TOLA

SPAN•San Francisco, CA
•$125,000 - $165,000•Onsite

About The Position

SPAN is enabling electrification for all. XFRA by SPAN is the first distributed data center using existing infrastructure and underutilized power capacity to meet expanding AI compute demand. Decarbonization is the process to reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, from entering our atmosphere. Electrification is the process of replacing fossil fuel appliances that run on gas or oil with all-electric upgrades for a cleaner way to power our lives. At SPAN, we believe in enabling homes and vehicles powered by clean energy, making electrification upgrades possible, building more resilient homes with reliable backup, and designing a flexible and distributed electrical grid. The initial focus will be Austin and Dallas, TX. We're hiring an XFRA Install Manager to own field installation quality, schedule, and safety across SPAN's deployment markets. You'll manage a mix of in-house electricians and licensed subcontractor crews installing SPAN Panels and XFRA outdoor compute nodes, coordinate closely with host partners and site supervisors, and be the escalation point for anything that comes up in the field — from code questions to schedule slips to safety incidents. This is a working-manager role: you'll spend real time on job sites, not just in a dashboard.

Requirements

  • Preferably, you live in Texas
  • 5+ years managing electrical or low-voltage field installation crews, ideally across multiple simultaneous job sites.
  • 10+ years general installation experience
  • Background in solar, battery storage, EV charging, smart-panel systems, or similar residential electrification work; experience with a scaling or newly launched hardware product is a strong plus.
  • Track record of managing subcontractor relationships, including scoping, vetting, and performance management.
  • Comfort reading engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, and installation manuals, and translating them into field-ready crew guidance.
  • Strong safety program experience; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Clear, structured communicator who can manage up to HQ leadership and sideways with partners at the same time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing installs across multiple metros or with a multi-site production.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection and inspection processes across metro jurisdictions (varies significantly by AHJ).
  • Experience with data-center and outdoor rack/enclosure installations.
  • Prior experience standing up a new regional install program from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and schedule a regional team of employed and subcontracted electricians installing SPAN Panels and XFRA nodes across job sites.
  • Own install quality across the region, ensuring every job meets NEC, local AHJ code, and SPAN's own installation standards; conduct site audits and spot-checks.
  • Coordinate permit pulls, schedule inspections with local jurisdictions, and resolve any inspection findings or code questions that come up.
  • Serve as the primary field-level point of contact for partner and site superintendents, aligning install schedules with construction timelines and resolving on-site conflicts.
  • Own regional safety performance — lockout/tagout, arc-flash, PPE, fall protection, and general jobsite safety — including incident investigation and corrective action.
  • Ensure SPAN Panel + XFRA node pairs are properly energized, load-tested, and verified against the XFRA Secure Orchestration Layer before O&M handoff.
  • Recruit, vet, and manage licensed electrical subcontractor firms, including scope negotiation, performance tracking, and onboarding to XFRA-specific procedures.
  • Deliver or coordinate SPAN/XFRA installation training and certification for new crews and subcontractor partners; keep training materials current as the product evolves.
  • Track install volume, cycle time, first-pass quality, and safety metrics across the region; report up to XFRA Field Operations leadership and flag capacity or schedule risk early.
  • Be the go-to for on-site issues — service capacity surprises, site condition problems, material shortages — and drive them to resolution.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation + equity grants at a well-funded, venture-backed company
  • Comprehensive benefits: 100% employee premiums for base plans on medical, dental, vision with options for additional coverage.
  • Parental leave up to twenty four (24) weeks depending on eligibility
