About The Position

Charlotte Country Day School (Country Day) is seeking a Field Hockey Junior Varsity (JV) Head Coach to begin work in Summer 2026. This is a part-time, seasonal position from August to October, with hours varying according to the season. In-season work primarily involves afternoon and evening practices and competitions, with occasional weekend work required. Out-of-season responsibilities are more flexible. The JV Field Hockey Team consists of 9th and 10th graders. The coach will be responsible for leading all aspects of the JV Field Hockey Program, including the development, supervision, and mentorship of student-athletes, in collaboration with the Field Hockey Program Head to support the overall goals of the program.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience coaching field hockey at middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must exhibit enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting.
  • Vision and creativity.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Employment is contingent upon an approved criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness to pursue a certification from National Federation of State High School Associations (CIC – Certified Interscholastic Coach or AIC – Accredited Interscholastic Coach).
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Endorsements of P (passenger) and S (school bus) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the sport.
  • Plan and organize tryouts, practices, and games operations.
  • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competitions and practice, and keep the Field Hockey Program Head informed of the athletics performance of student-athletes.
  • Organize and direct individuals and small group practices/exercises.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Participate in special activities to include parent’s night and end of season team gathering.
  • Supervise and instruct student-athletes during all team activities.
  • Maintain and inventory team equipment and apparel.
  • Communicate regularly with team parents and athletics program staff regarding team activities.
  • Attend required team and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
  • Support multi-sport participation for student-athletes.
  • Promote balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes.
  • Comply with all Charlotte Country Day School, North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, and Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness.
