About The Position

The Field Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Dogwood Site Contractors’ heavy construction equipment primarily at active job sites. This position helps minimize equipment downtime by responding promptly to service needs and completing repairs safely and efficiently in the field.

Requirements

  • Previous experience repairing heavy construction or earthmoving equipment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and construction equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and independently complete field repairs.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate a service truck and safely transport tools and parts to job sites.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple equipment repair requests.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to job sites to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and other equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service as needed.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and make field repairs whenever possible to minimize downtime.
  • Determine when equipment can be repaired in the field versus when it should be transported for more extensive repairs.
  • Communicate repair status, equipment needs, and anticipated downtime to the Equipment Manager and/or Field Operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, maintenance performed, and equipment condition.
  • Maintain an organized service truck, tools, and company-issued equipment.
  • Identify potential equipment problems before they result in major repairs or extended downtime.
  • Follow all company safety policies and maintain a safe work area while performing repairs on active construction sites.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and operators regarding equipment issues without unnecessarily disrupting job-site production.
  • Perform other equipment-related duties as assigned.
