About The Position

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) is seeking a detail-oriented, part-time Field Enumerator to support its organization. This role involves collecting agricultural data on behalf of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The position requires interviewing farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses, and sometimes traveling to fields for crop counts. The enumerator will maintain detailed records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, expenditures, and hours worked, operating from a home residence with an operable telephone. NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association representing agricultural leaders from all fifty states and four U.S. territories. Founded in 1916, its mission is to advance American agriculture through policy, partnerships, and public engagement. NASDA aims to create a positive work environment and foster career growth for its employees.

Requirements

  • Experience multitasking in an energetic, deadline-oriented work environment
  • Ability to positively represent NASDA and the benefits of enumerators in all survey actions
  • Ability to make crop counts in designated fields
  • Ability to maintain a reliable personal vehicle
  • Ability to conduct interviews in person or by telephone with farm operators and other individuals
  • Knowledge about computers or iPads
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate good time management in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Interview farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural businesses either in person or on the phone.
  • Travel to designated fields to perform crop counts.
  • Maintain and deliver detailed and legible records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, expenditures, and hours worked.
  • Conduct enumerator work from a residence with an operable telephone free from distractions.
  • Maintain a personal vehicle for travel to perform field enumerator duties.
