About The Position

The Field Engineer is a key member of the project operations team, providing critical support to Project Management and serving as the liaison between the Field and the Office. This role involves developing pre-work and post-work submittal packages, processing cable test reports, drafting RFIs, preparing change order requests, verifying field conditions against design documents, maintaining up-to-date working sets of drawings and specifications, and managing redline/as-built drawing sets. Effective communication is paramount, ensuring the entire Project Team remains informed. The Field Engineer will also participate in RFP processes, support Project Managers, evaluate and suggest process improvements, manage and mentor colleagues, interact with customers, oversee subcontractors, lead field validation of telecom design, manage project review processes with an emphasis on constructability and value engineering, implement and oversee electronic tracking systems, provide daily/weekly reporting, coordinate with Project Superintendents, support QA/QC, ensure downstream team deadlines are met, review contracts, cultivate customer relationships, ensure material and equipment availability, coordinate customer acceptance, manage the change management process, and partner with QA/QC teams. Regular review and validation of test results and maintenance of redlines are also key responsibilities, along with leading the preparation of closeout documentation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of various construction technology platforms, quality, and safety standards.

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to mentor junior field staff, lead site walks, and represent the telecom discipline in cross functional meetings.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence without direct authority.
  • Proficient in using a computer and business / industry applications - Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.), Bluebeam, Procore, Textura and others.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Construction Management, Engineering or other related discipline. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in the construction industry in a similar role.
  • OSHA-30 Hour certification (if not certified at time of hire, certifications must be obtained within first six (6) months of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-work and post-work submittal packages.
  • Process, validate, and compile cable test reports.
  • Draft and process RFIs.
  • Prepare change order requests.

  • Ensure working sets of drawings and specifications are kept up-to-date.
  • Maintain redline / as-built drawing sets.
  • Keep project records appropriately filed.
  • Ensure that the entirety of the extended Project Team is always up to date.
  • Follow Safe Work Practices that conform with the Company’s Safety Program and client worksite policies.
  • Participate in the RFP processes, completing a detailed review of plans, specifications, and entirety of bid package.
  • Provide close support to the Project Manager and/or Senior Project Manager.
  • Evaluate and continually suggest improvements to processes used by Project Delivery Teams.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop colleagues.
  • Interact with the customer to validate understanding of expectations.
  • Aid in providing close support and oversight for subcontractors.
  • Lead field validation of telecom design, proactively identifying conflicts or gaps and collaborating for resolution thru the RFI process.
  • Manage project review process with particular emphasis on constructability, value engineering options and design discrepancies / clashes.
  • Own the implementation and oversight of electronic tracking systems and custom dashboards.
  • Provide daily/weekly reporting, issue escalation, and coordination with project managers and general contractors.
  • Proactively and systematically communicate challenges, risks, and successes.
  • Coordinate with Project Superintendent(s) to understand and assess installation methods, labor needs, and manpower forecasts.
  • Support QA/QC by ensuring adherence to the Quality Control plans and process.
  • Ensure that all downstream team members are meeting deadlines on assigned tasks.
  • Review contracts, work orders and purchase orders to fully understand contractual requirements and provisions.
  • Cultivate and maintain customer relationships.
  • Work with the field operations team to ensure proper materials and equipment are available.
  • Coordinate with customer for acceptance and signoff.
  • Demonstrate ownership of the change management process—actively identifies scope impacts, initiates timely communication with stakeholders, and drives resolution.
  • Partner closely with QA/QC teams.
  • Regularly review and validate test results (OTDR, Power Meter, etc.).
  • Maintain up to date redlines throughout the build lifecycle.
  • Lead the preparation of closeout documentation, ensuring timely, organized, and customer-ready submittals.
