Field Engineer - Construction / Underground Utilities

Hodge Western CorpPowderly, TX
$75,000 - $105,000Onsite

About The Position

At Hodge Western Corp, we believe the best project managers and superintendents are made in the field — not in a classroom or a conference room. That's why we're looking for driven, early-career professionals who want to get their hands dirty, learn the craft of complex underground utility construction, and grow into leaders who run projects and crews at scale. This isn't a desk job. It's a launch pad. Hodge Western Corp has spent 20 years pushing the boundaries of specialty underground utility construction. We operate across three divisions — Renewables, Rock Trenching, and Directional Drilling — and build some of the most technically demanding utility infrastructure across the United States. Our technology-driven approach to construction gives our clients real advantages in safety and efficiency, and it gives our people real advantages in career development.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in construction, field engineering, or quality control — heavy civil, underground utilities, or renewable energy preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel full-time to project sites across the U.S.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam or MS Project is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when it comes to documentation and QC tracking
  • Clear communicator — you can work with a field crew in the morning and a client representative in the afternoon

Nice To Haves

  • A construction-related degree (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar) is preferred but not required — we value demonstrated field aptitude and work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Lead QC processes in the field to ensure all work meets project specifications and contract requirements
  • Conduct inspections of installed work and maintain detailed documentation: inspection reports, test results, and daily quality logs
  • Identify deficiencies, communicate them clearly, and track corrective actions through to completion
  • Operate Topcon GPS equipment for layout verification and field data collection
  • Collect, process, and maintain accurate as-built records throughout the project lifecycle
  • Keep as-built documentation organized, complete, and aligned with project requirements
  • Manage field documentation including drawings, RFIs, submittments, and change orders
  • Track quantities installed and assist with progress reporting
  • Coordinate with project teams and owner representatives to keep communication tight
