Field Engineer

TekWissen•Indianapolis, IN
•Onsite

About The Position

TekWissen is recruiting a contingent IT field technician for a client that provides information technology solutions to government, financial services, and commercial markets. The technician will install and commission Ecolab KitchenIQ Remote Equipment Monitoring equipment at Circle K and GetGo store locations in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a temporary, 12-month, onsite assignment. The work consists of installing and commissioning REM devices: one cellular cloud connector and approximately 5 to 19 wireless temperature sensors, depending on the store. Technicians follow standardized instructions, use the KitchenIQ mobile application to register devices and verify readings and connectivity, document the work, and obtain store-leader acknowledgment. The assignment does not include electrical work, construction, equipment repair, structured cabling, or ongoing break/fix support. Selected technicians must complete the recorded Circle K / GetGo installation training and review the current installation guide before dispatch. Training addresses application access, device commissioning and placement, connectivity validation, store checkout, photo evidence, equipment returns, and escalation procedures.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a field service technician, desktop support technician, deployment technician, smart-hands technician, or low-voltage device installer.
  • Comfort using Android or Apple mobile applications, scanning QR codes, entering device information, and navigating location-based equipment records.
  • Basic understanding of cellular or wireless signal strength, device commissioning, connectivity validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to follow detailed installation guides, equipment-placement photographs, checklists, and naming standards.
  • Strong attention to detail when matching store numbers, device quantities, equipment names, and installation records.
  • Ability to work independently in an active convenience-store and food-service environment without disrupting store operations.
  • Professional customer-service skills and ability to communicate clearly with store leaders and remote support personnel.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between multiple geographically grouped sites.
  • Ability to take clear installation photographs and submit electronic forms or work-order notes from a mobile device or laptop.
  • Smartphone with a current Android or iOS operating system, camera, QR-code capability, and reliable cellular data.
  • Laptop or tablet when required for work-order, email, or documentation submission.
  • Standard field-service hand tools, including screwdrivers, flashlight, measuring tape, and basic cleaning supplies.
  • Portable battery pack and charging cables.
  • Paper towels or lint-free cloths for drying cleaned mounting surfaces.
  • Appropriate closed-toe, slip-resistant footwear and any site-required personal protective equipment.
  • Complete the recorded Circle K / GetGo installation training and review the current installation guide before dispatch.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at assigned locations during scheduled service windows and check in with the store leader using provided authorization information.
  • Locate and inventory the installation kit and confirm quantities of sensors, the cloud connector, thermometer, and consumables.
  • Survey designated refrigeration and food-storage equipment and confirm which units require monitoring.
  • Commission one cellular cloud connector and approximately 5 to 19 wireless temperature sensors, depending on store configuration.
  • Use the Ecolab KitchenIQ mobile application to select the correct store, register equipment, scan device QR codes, apply naming conventions, and verify temperature readings.
  • Temporarily position the cloud connector, validate connectivity for every sensor, relocate the connector when necessary, and permanently mount it only after devices meet the approved signal-strength requirement.
  • Clean and dry mounting surfaces, attach sensors according to the placement guide, and verify that they are secure.
  • Complete the installation checklist; record arrival and departure times, equipment quantities, and exceptions; capture required photographs; and obtain store-leader acknowledgment.
  • Walk the store leader through the completed installation and confirm installed sensors are visible and functioning in KitchenIQ.
  • Document unused equipment and follow the established FedEx return process rather than leaving surplus sensors at the store.
  • Use the designated Microsoft Teams installation-support chat for technical questions, access issues, missing materials, or installation exceptions.
  • Avoid drilling, electrical work, construction, and activities outside the approved installation guide.
  • Complete the recorded installation training and review the current installation guide before dispatch.
