About The Position

General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. The company specializes in the construction of underground utilities, natural gas distribution, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures. General Excavating is searching for a highly motivated Construction Field Engineer, who is expected to assist and monitor construction related activities in field operations. This role is responsible for the support of Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project success. The position assists with overall management of construction project sites and procurement through final acceptance, while ensuring project safety. It aims to maximize profits and cost controls to maintain stability and growth of the organization.

Requirements

  • One (1) years minimum related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
  • Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks.
  • Post offer drug testing with fit for employment screening.

Responsibilities

  • Studies specifications and plans to coordinate procedures for appropriate construction methods based on project start and completion.
  • Studies staffing and equipment needs for each phase of construction and assists with direction of construction activities and related staffing/equipment needs.
  • Assists with procurement of materials, tools, and rental equipment to conform to project schedules.
  • Assists with coordination of project deliveries and inspections.
  • Coordinates with on-site personnel engaged in planning the work procedures, executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, plans, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel, owners, engineers, inspectors, contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems to improve construction methods and performance.
  • Inspects and reviews work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, plans, schedules, and safety compliance.
  • May assist with quality control program documentation depending on jobsite requirements.
  • Maintains as-built documentation of completed work through GPS data collection and redlines drawings.
  • Confers and cooperates with other onsite personnel in following administrative, operational policies and procedures.
  • Assists with investigations and reports damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
  • Monitors compliance with project safety program requirements.
  • Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented as necessary.
  • Assists with compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations.
