Shimmick is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support the Vista Grande Drainage Basin Improvements Project in Daly City, CA. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 4 years of relevant heavy civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Experience in heavy civil construction with an understanding of construction methods, means, and materials.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to field crews, ensuring accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Oversee layout, surveying, and grade control to maintain project accuracy.
  • Help manage and implement construction methodologies and best practices in collaboration with the superintendent and project team.
  • Reports to and support superintendent in day-to-day tasks.
  • Management of subcontractors scopes to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Coordination and interface with other stakeholders which includes inspectors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Management of assigned Force Account work.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure work meets Shimmick’s quality standards and project specifications.
  • Work with the Quality Control/Project team to document and resolve non-conformances.
  • Assist in safety audits and enforce compliance with OSHA and Shimmick safety policies.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Track material quantities, labor hours, and equipment utilization to support cost control efforts.
  • Identify and help resolve potential project delays or budget overruns.
  • Work closely with the Project Team which includes project manager, engineers, superintendent and foremen to facilitate smooth execution.
  • Prepare and track RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
  • Participate in daily and weekly construction meetings to discuss project progress and challenges.
  • Serve as a liaison between the field and office, ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution.
  • Utilize construction management software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Procore, Microsoft Office Packages, CMiC etc.
  • Maintain organized field records and documentation for closeout and future reference.
