As our Field Engineer you will be responsible for providing pre-deploymnet, execution and closeout support for Field Services Projects. This position reports to the Field Engineering Supervisor/Manager but is typically assigned to a Project or Site Manager based on the project. It may be elevated to Field Engineering Lead on larger projects and involves regular communication with internal teams, customers, and regulators to address complex technical issues under tight schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Applied Science in the field of engineering + 4 years of industry experience.
  • Working towards Professional Engineer of Ontario designation.
  • Working knowledge of materials and field execution practices.
  • Working knowledge of Non Destructive Examination applications.
  • Working knowledge of Nuclear Codes ASME III, V, VIII,IX, N285.
  • Working knowledge of Nuclear StandardsN286, N299.
  • Proficient knowledge of materials, machining techniques, field execution practices.
  • Proficient writing of technical reports.
  • Professional level English verbal and written communication skills with an understanding of engineering technical language.
  • Working understanding in of Human Performance prevention tools.
  • Working understanding of Foreign Material Exclusion and the prevention practices.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements and instructions into field executable procedures.
  • Ability to train engineers, technicians, and trades in technically complex operations.
  • Proficient in executing work on critical path.
  • Proficient in providing work direction on critical path.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and mode of transportation.
  • Must have a nuclear security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Follow direction from supervisor or lead engineer to perform Pre-Deployment Support Tasks in accordance with Nuclear Services Operating Procedures.
  • Review the scope of work to determine the applicable Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standards and their requirements.
  • Participate in conceptual process development.
  • Prepare and review work packages; highlight and correct discrepancies:
  • Ensure it captures all scopes as per Scope of Work, Technical Specifications and Contract documents.
  • Ensure correct technical details from drawings are captured and referenced.
  • Ensure quality documents and procedures to ensure compliance with quality manual and code requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Nuclear Services Operating Procedures.
  • Lead Lessons Learned review and ensure Operational Experience is captured within the work package.
  • Lead hands-on tooling development, tooling design reviews, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis per Nuclear Services Operating Procedure.
  • Lead procedure development and validation on mockups per Nuclear Services Operating Procedure.
  • Prepare and process requisitions for labour, parts and services per Nuclear Services Operating Procedure.
  • Train trades and technicians on technical aspects of the project, create presentations as required.
  • Collaborate with trades, technicians, and engineers to align project expectations and deliverables.
  • Report on progress of deliverables at project meetings.
  • Disposition, implement, and respond to stakeholder comments.
  • Lead project readiness reviews.
  • Interact with regulatory authorities and customer representatives
  • Provide peer coaching to junior engineers as required.
  • Deploy to the work site with the project team.
  • Fulfill the position of Field Engineer on shift.
  • Designated owner of technical and quality aspects of the project.
  • Responsible for ensuring trades, technicians and supervision understand the work package.
  • Stop work if work package or quality program is not being followed.
  • Stop work if work package cannot be followed.
  • Utilize the Nuclear Services Operating Procedures to address As-Found Conditions, Rework, and Non-Conformances.
  • Understand the requirements of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standards as they pertain to the scope of work and issues that may arise.
  • Utilize and incorporate Human Performance tools to prevent errors before they occur:
  • Stop Think Act Review;
  • 3-way communication;
  • Technical Pre-jobs;
  • Stop when Unsure;
  • Questioning Attitude.
  • Single Point of Contact for all technical issues on project, on shift:
  • Provide technical direction for issues in accordance to work package instructions.
  • Escalate to Engineering Lead for issues that cannot be resolved.
  • Coordinate stakeholders to achieve resolution.
  • Perform technical oversight to trades and technicians by witnessing work performed.
  • Perform walkdowns of the work area multiple times during shift or perform continuous monitoring remotely.
  • Utilize the Nuclear Services Operating Procedures to process all document changes required
  • Verify all scope as required per work package has been completed, highlight and escalate any discrepancies.
  • Provide daily project progress updates as required to project management.
  • Provide 48hr look ahead for process and quality hold points and tasks.
  • Obtain sign-offs from Customer and Regulatory Authorities.
  • Ensure all quality records within the work package are completed and signed off by all parties.
  • Ensure all documentation required to support scope completion is completed and correct.
  • Document and submit lessons learned into the lessons learned database or the post-execution lessons learned meeting per Nuclear Services Operating Procedure.
  • Prepare and review technical reports documenting project execution and outcome as required.
