About The Position

Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking qualified Field Engineers to join our team in Bakersfield, CA. This position is for the project assignment at California High Speed Rail. The role involves a variety of duties to support project execution, including schedule input, submittal management, preparing field work packages, compiling as-built data, verifying installation quantities, submitting daily reports, performing procurement quantity takeoffs, and conducting field safety and quality inspections. The Field Engineer will also assist the Superintendent with coordination of material deliveries, perform field verifications, inspections, and measurements, and work closely with document control and field personnel to ensure access to the latest drawings and installation documents. Additionally, the role requires providing schedule update information to the project scheduler, ensuring work is correctly cost coded, and attending necessary briefings, training, and safety meetings. A key aspect of the role is regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors, along with regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Must be flexible in working in both office and field environment as needed
  • Must have excellent teamwork, organizational, and communication skills (i.e. verbal and written)
  • Must be highly motivated
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis
  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by position
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet)

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience in a construction related position
  • Construction management course work or internship experience
  • Railroad Construction experience
  • AutoCAD skills
