About The Position

A Field Engineer III performs as a lead on more complex field engineering assignments and performs a variety of engineering assignments involving technology applications involved in the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of complex electronic/mechanical equipment and systems. The incumbent will lead a small team of electricians supporting the Edwards AFB Range Squadron. Work includes new equipment installs, facility/equipment upgrades, and preventative/corrective maintenance activities. The incumbent demonstrates proficient high-level skills and knowledge of several technical disciplines within the electrical trade. Has competent knowledge and skills in mechanical, HVAC, structural, carpentry, and plumbing trades to perform maintenance of and effect repairs of facilities, machinery, electrical, mechanical equipment, and other related subsystems. Possess general knowledge and skills associated with closed circuit video systems, network access control systems. The incumbent should possess strong diagnostic skills to determine the source of trouble, malfunctions, and system design deficiencies. Be capable be conducting systems analysis, requirements analysis, design analysis, integration, testing, and validation of new and existing systems. Support engineering and technical evaluations to define technical problems, causes, and can create the needed solution necessary to complete the job. The systems to be supported are comprise of, but are not limited to, power generation equipment, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), backup generators, multifueled, and portable power generators, dedicated mission heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), aircraft power systems (270 VDC, 28 VDC). Incumbent has experience with dismantling or partly dismantling subsystems and effects repairs primarily using hand tools. Replaces defective parts with items obtained from existing stock. Performs work in accordance with pertinent guides and regulations. Prepares written specifications for major repairs or for production of required parts ordered from a machine shop. In addition, candidate may be required to perform as an after hour on call responder (potentially twice monthly), weekend duty as necessary, and other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline, or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the specialty field are required for this position.
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable senior technical contributor-level performance on complex projects or programs
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • Must possess a valid, state issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of design specifications for more complex systems/projects
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications
  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications
  • Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required
