About The Position

In this role, the Patient Care Solutions (PCS) Field Engineer Apprentice will observe and perform various equipment service processes and procedures to drive customer satisfaction and ensure proper functionality of our life changing medical equipment in PCS within a hospital or healthcare system. Throughout your apprenticeship there is also potential to learn other PCS modalities: Anesthesia & Respiratory (ARC), Maternal Infant Care (MIC), Diagnostic Cardiology (DCAR), and Patient Monitoring/Telemetry. This is an onsite customer‑facing service position focused on maintaining and repairing medical equipment in healthcare environments. Time is spent supporting customers in hospitals and clinical settings, serving as the face of GE HealthCare at customer sites in Columbus, OH. This one-year apprenticeship is designed to prepare candidates for a long‑term career in field service. The apprenticeship will be scheduled to align with the anticipated availability of a Level 1 position to support continuity of employment following program completion.

Requirements

AS, BS, MS degree, military education, certificate program, current student with less than 12 months from completion OR High School Diploma/GED with 6 months experience servicing electronic, IT or mechanical equipment.
Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Nice To Haves

Basic understanding of IT systems and networking concepts, including device setup, connectivity, and user support.
Certification in biomedical or computer networking, reflecting hands-on experience demonstrating technical proficiency and systems knowledge (e.g., CBET, CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent).
Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy-to-understand manner.
Ability to develop and maintain good customer relations.
Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process.
Knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices.
Change agent and process oriented.
Local candidates strongly preferred.
Any relocation beyond 30 miles from your current location must be approved by your manager in advance.
Candidates who are open to relocation may increase their chances of placement into a full‑time internal role.

Responsibilities

Work within hospital environment to evaluate and troubleshoot Patient Care Solutions (PCS) equipment issues and implement appropriate repairs.
Complete Planned/Preventative Maintenance on designated equipment.
Perform safety and environmental inspections ensuring compliance to Health and Human Services and Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
Complete necessary service and repair documentation following hospital protocol and GEHC policies & procedures.
Maintain daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to customer satisfaction.
Learn and ensure proper care of tools and test equipment and ensure calibration.
Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment.
Mentor with and assist more experienced technicians on progressive repairs and resolution, and will work as a member of the local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within his/her assigned area.
Complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within the defined deadlines.
Identify and report all customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization.
Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
