About The Position

Shermco is North America’s largest and fastest growing NETA-accredited electrical testing organization, focused on ensuring electrical power systems function properly and safely. With divisions in Professional Engineering, Rotating Machinery, Renewable Energy Services, and Field Repair, Shermco handles all aspects of electrical systems with an emphasis on safety and client service. Shermco US is hiring a Field Electrical Engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a top ABET accredited school, with a focus on Power Systems studies.
  • Comfortable safely working in the vicinity of high-voltage transmission lines.
  • Comfortable with and have the ability to work independently, accurately and make great decisions.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and work in the field at industrial and commercial sites.
  • Smart, a quick learner, adaptive, able to use good judgment, and be dependable.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Able to clearly communicate in English via verbal and written methods, and be comfortable and effective doing so directly to customers and co-workers.
  • Must have a good background check and be and stay Drug-Free.
  • Able to physically climb ladders, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, have full functionality of arms and hands, stand and walk for long periods of time (with or without reasonable accommodation).

  • Internship in a related industry.
  • FE or EIT certification.
  • SCADA knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting NETA testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of electrical equipment in data centers.
  • Working closely with clients to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues.
  • Providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Driving to customer jobsites in a company-provided vehicle across the state, some of which are in remote locations.
  • Reviewing, interpreting, and understanding wiring diagrams and relaying schematics to fully understand project scope.
  • Determining an isolation plan to take protective schemes out of service prior to work beginning.
  • Developing a test plan to implement relaying projects using customer-provided prints and documentation.
  • Applying settings and performing functional tests on microprocessor protective relays and associated circuitry using test equipment.
  • Ensuring that received and installed electrical equipment meets project specifications.
  • Developing livening procedures for placing new equipment into service.
  • Performing end-to-end relay testing to verify carrier and fiber systems.
  • Performing primary current injection testing to prove secondary current connections as designed.
  • May perform simple power system studies including short circuit, arc-flash and protective device coordination.
