About The Position

Military.com is seeking a remote freelance Field Content Creator with prior military service. This role involves creating authentic stories from the military community for social media channels. The ideal candidate is comfortable on camera and skilled in all aspects of video production, including ideation, filming, interviewing, scripting, and editing. A deep understanding of military life and the ability to connect with service members, veterans, and their families are essential. The goal is to produce engaging and accurate videos that inform, represent, and connect with the audience.

Requirements

  • Prior military service is required.
  • Firsthand experience of military life and a strong understanding of the U.S. military community.
  • Confident, engaging on-camera presence and the ability to build rapport with diverse interview subjects.
  • A portfolio showcasing video content filmed and edited, including examples of speaking on camera.
  • Proficiency in a video editing tool (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut) with the ability to deliver polished social videos independently.
  • Practical filming skills, including framing, lighting, and capturing clean audio in various field conditions.
  • Strong storytelling, interviewing, and writing skills, with sound judgment regarding accuracy, context, and respectful representation.
  • Ability to manage assignments independently, communicate reliably, meet deadlines, and attend shoots at agreed locations.

  • Experience in military public affairs, journalism, documentary production, or event coverage.
  • Connections within military and veteran communities and experience finding compelling interview subjects.
  • Experience building recurring social video series, using audience insights, or producing clearly disclosed partner content.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch original stories and recurring video ideas related to military life, veteran experiences, military culture, careers, and community events.
  • Host videos on camera, conduct interviews, and record clear voiceovers.
  • Be comfortable speaking naturally, asking follow-up questions, and working from a script.
  • Film in the field at approved events and locations, capturing interviews, supporting footage, and behind-the-scenes moments using a phone or camera.
  • Edit raw footage into finished videos, including creating strong opening hooks, managing pacing, adding captions, performing audio cleanup, basic color correction, and incorporating graphics.
  • Create vertical videos for platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook, adapting edits for each platform and audience.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager and editorial/video teams on briefs, story accuracy, shoot plans, deadlines, and feedback.
  • Arrange interviews and shoot logistics, secure filming permissions and participant releases, and adhere to editorial guidance on sensitive topics and military information.
  • Deliver organized footage and finished assets on schedule, implement agreed-upon revisions, and use performance feedback to enhance future content.
