About The Position

The Field Construction Trainer is responsible for the implementation and delivery of engaging, practical, and field-focused learning experiences that support Stanley Martin Homes’ construction team members. This role helps ensure Neighborhood Construction Managers, Assistant Neighborhood Construction Managers, Area Service Managers, and other field team members are prepared to execute Stanley Martin’s construction processes, quality standards, safety expectations, systems, and customer experience requirements consistently across all regions and divisions. The Trainer partners closely with Learning & Development, Division and Corporate Production leaders, and subject matter experts to support the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of construction training programs. This individual must be a self-starter who can work independently in a remote environment while remaining highly collaborative, communicative, and aligned with team goals. The role requires being managed remotely and the ability to travel up to 30-40% to support field training needs.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of residential construction practices, field operations, Stanley Martin Homes processes, and the homebuilding process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical construction concepts to various audiences.
  • Exceptional presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills in both small and large group settings.
  • Ability to deliver effective training in classroom, virtual, and field-based environments.
  • Strong ability to build credibility and trust with field team members, production leaders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of effective construction training programs.
  • Ability to evaluate learner understanding, observe field application, and provide practical feedback that improves performance.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills, follow-through, and the ability to manage competing priorities with limited day-to-day oversight.
  • Comfortable working as part of a remote team and being managed remotely, including maintaining proactive communication and accountability.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively with Learning & Development, Construction Operations, division leaders, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt training delivery to meet regional needs, construction schedules, learner experience levels, and business priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30-40% to support field training, onboarding, coaching, and division needs.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of residential construction, homebuilding, construction management, field operations, or related subject matter experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the residential construction lifecycle, including construction stages, jobsite coordination, quality expectations, safety practices, inspections, scheduling, and customer-facing milestones.
  • Ability to travel to communities, divisional offices, jobsites, and training locations as needed.
  • High level of professionalism, sound judgment, and ability to represent Stanley Martin Homes in alignment with company standards and values.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience training, coaching, mentoring, or leading others in a construction, field operations, or homebuilding environment preferred.
  • Experience working with construction systems, learning management systems, scheduling tools, or other field technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging construction-focused learning sessions for new hires and incumbent field team members using various forms and formats, including group discussion, presentations, field demonstrations, simulations, videos, role-plays, and hands-on coaching.
  • Deliver training that supports field readiness in Stanley Martin Homes’ construction processes, quality standards, safety practices, customer experience expectations, scheduling practices, documentation requirements, and field systems.
  • Adapt facilitation style to meet the needs of different learner groups, experience levels, regional practices, and field roles, including Neighborhood Construction Managers, Assistant Neighborhood Construction Managers, and other production operations team members.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and ongoing construction training initiatives to increase individual competency, confidence, and readiness in construction knowledge, company policy, jobsite practices, process execution, and systems usage.
  • Provide field-based coaching and reinforcement to help team members apply training concepts on active jobsites, during construction milestones, and throughout the homebuilding process.
  • Support consistent execution of construction standards and processes across all regions and divisions by reinforcing approved training content, field expectations, and operational best practices.
  • Partner with Learning & Development designers, Division and Corporate Production leaders, and subject matter experts to identify training needs, gather critical content, validate field accuracy, and deliver impactful learning experiences.
  • Provide feedback on construction training materials, job aids, onboarding resources, field guides, and learning programs based on learner engagement, comprehension, field application, and operational relevance.
  • Support skill-building initiatives related to construction operations, jobsite management, quality assurance, safety, scheduling, trade partner coordination, inspections, customer communication, and company construction systems.
  • Reinforce post-training application through field coaching, mentoring support, follow-up sessions, check-ins, and observations of field execution.
  • Observe and assess learner performance in both classroom and field settings, providing constructive feedback to support growth, consistency, and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records of training and development activities, attendance, assessments, learner progress, and completion status within Stanley Martin’s Learning Management System.
  • Participate in evaluating program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, learner feedback, field observations, and input from Division and Corporate Production leadership.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Stanley Martin construction practices, field processes, safety expectations, quality standards, training trends, and relevant homebuilding industry practices.
  • Proactively communicate with remote leadership, project stakeholders, field leaders, and cross-functional partners to provide updates, escalate needs, and ensure alignment on training priorities.
  • Manage time, travel, schedules, and training deliverables independently while maintaining strong accountability to goals, timelines, and remote leadership expectations.
  • Represent the company professionally in all internal and external interactions, including with team members, trade partners, vendors, and division leadership.
  • Adhere to safety standards and help promote a safe working environment on all jobsites and in all training activities.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by manager.
