Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, which may include checks for criminal records and/or motor vehicle reports and/or drug screening.
  • Must be able to climb poles and work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces such as manholes.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a laptop computer and various software applications.
  • Must be able to interpret technical documents such as work orders, circuit diagrams, and schematic drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-speed internet, video, and voice networks, including associated wiring and equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repair on outside plant facilities.
  • Climb poles, use a shovel and pick to dig up and bury cable, and may be required to work in manholes or controlled environmental vaults (CEV).
  • Locate buried telephone cables.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested.
  • Convey a positive and professional appearance and demeanor when communicating the company’s products and services to our customers.
  • Actively support sales and marketing related activities.
  • Assume all other duties as assigned.
  • Install, test, and maintain private and switched services, and applications for individual residential and business customers.
  • Use laptop computer to option electronic systems and applications, and to test and install individual services.
  • Successfully option/configure customer’s computer hardware and software, install modems and telephone filters and applications to complete DSL and VDSL services.
  • Review, analyze, update, and interpret work orders, circuit diagrams, word documents, schematic drawings, engineering work prints, OSP (Outside Plant) maps, equipment drawings, company records, technical manuals, and other source documents to obtain specifications for installation and trouble isolation purposes.
  • Resolve issues to ensure service is installed/repaired by the committed date/time.
  • Receive service orders, worksheets (detailed diagrams describing the nature and location of equipment to be installed or repaired), and repair tickets from the supervisor, or other designated employees and perform specified work.
  • Conduct tests associated with the installation and repair of individual circuits.
  • Resolve customer issues and problems, ensure customer satisfaction, ensure service is working to specifications.
  • Utilize various testing devices such as frequency and data signal generators, transmission measuring sets, volt-ohm-meters, software programs, while installing and maintaining equipment, services, and applications.
  • Perform pre-survey to determine the availability of equipment and facilities, to pretest circuits to ensure that conditioning requirements are met, and to review with the customer work specified in the work order and the possibilities of utilizing existing facilities for upgrading/customizing services.
  • Repair, maintain, splice and perform conformance testing of subscriber line, carrier’s plant, and/or fiber optic plant.
  • When installing or repairing telephone services, connect equipment to inside cable and make cross connections by connecting color-coded wires.
  • Join, repair, and rearrange cable conductors in utility holes.
  • Make necessary tests for gas before entering the utility hole.
  • Must pump water and/or clean debris from the utility hole.
  • Locate, join, repair, and rearrange cable and cable conductors in building and aerial or buried plant.
  • Place, rearrange, and/or remove all forms of outside plant, including but not limited to: underground cable, buried cable, conduit, aerial cable, fiber optics, inside wiring cable, intra-system cable, submarine cable, aerial wire, station wire, and all associated hardware and equipment including carrier and fiber optic terminal equipment.
  • Perform trouble isolation of transport customer and company communications components, cable, and infrastructure from the customer’s premise up to and including the central office/loop runner equipment.
