About The Position

Headway Environmental is seeking staff level Field Biologists to join our team in the southwest. The ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of field experience in environmental biology, particularly in Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah. Candidates with broad scope of field skills including botany, wildlife biology, protocol level species specific surveys and regional knowledge will be given preference. These positions offer flexible scheduling and the potential for advancement to salaried roles within our organization as we grow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on field biology, wetland delineation, and habitat assessment
  • Proficiency in plant identification, habitat classification and wildlife survey techniques
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Experience using GPS/GIS technology for data collection and mapping
  • Experience with field data processing and analysis
  • Experience as a contributor to biological reports

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field assessments and surveys to identify and characterize wetlands, habitats, and wildlife populations in accordance with regulatory requirements and project specifications
  • Perform wetland delineations, including field data collection, vegetation assessments, soil sampling, and mapping using GPS and GIS technologies
  • Compile and analyze field data to prepare accurate reports, maps, and permit applications for regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within established timelines and budgets
  • Assist in the development and implementation of mitigation plans, habitat restoration projects, and environmental monitoring programs
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Environmental Policy Act
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members as needed
