About The Position

American Conservation Experience (ACE), in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking a Field Biologist Member to contribute to natural resource conservation projects at Wupatki National Monument. This role involves habitat restoration, natural resource monitoring, and park visitor outreach. The Member will support the repair and stewardship of park lands through invasive plant control and native plant restoration efforts, including seed collection, site preparation, and sowing. Additionally, the Member will assist with night sky surveys and raptor surveys for wildlife observation and conservation. Park staff will provide training in invasive plant management, field botany, entomology, night sky monitoring, and wildlife survey techniques. This position is designed to facilitate professional development, expose the Member to land management agencies, and encourage networking with professionals, potentially including shadowing different work groups.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. ACE does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request). Members must be 21+ to drive due to ACE's insurance and liability requirements.
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30 (or up to 35 for veterans) to meet Public Land Corps (PLC) eligibility requirements.
  • Must meet PLC Eligibility Requirements, including citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as botany, ecology, biology, wildlife, fisheries, entomology, or related discipline.
  • A strong demonstrated interest and/or education in the fields of natural resources.
  • Experience identifying and managing native and non-native plants.
  • Excellent data management, technical writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in habitat restoration, natural resource monitoring, and park visitor outreach.
  • Support the repair and stewardship of park lands through invasive plant control activities.
  • Participate in native plant restoration efforts, including collection and storage of native seeds, trail/habitat/soil preparation, and native seed sowing.
  • Assist with night sky surveys to support dark sky resource monitoring.
  • Assist with raptor surveys to aid in wildlife observation and conservation efforts.
  • Complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations, and mid-term evaluations for longer terms.

  • Potential eligibility for a federal hiring authority upon completion of term of service and 640 hours of service.
