Requirements

  • A technical degree in an engineering related field; and/or 3 years field service experience in instrumentation and control systems, preferably in the Water/Wastewater Industry.
  • An understanding and working knowledge of control systems and process instruments.
  • Basic electrical and networking knowledge.
  • Comprehension of contract Electrical & P&ID drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with customers, management, and co-workers.
  • Must be a positive, contributing member of a project team.
  • Ability to mentor and train others.
  • Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers.
  • Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication.
  • Hearing within normal ranges.
  • Adequate vision for using a computer monitor.
  • Lifting of computer servers, workstations, and peripherals.
  • Good manual dexterity for setting up computer equipment and attaching associated cables.
  • Moving and carrying instruments and equipment.
  • Some panel lifting.
  • Good manual dexterity for working with instruments and equipment, as well as the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, and copiers.
  • Kneeling and sitting within panels for extended periods.
  • Vision necessary for reading panel and contract drawings.
  • Successful completion of background screening, drug testing, and driving record review where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of Instrumentation & Control Systems projects, including system design, build, installation, startup, and follow-up service.
  • Setting up customer computer system hardware and network, configuring SCADA application software, performing startup and testing, and providing training (using HMI expertise).
  • Developing PLC application monitoring and control software, performing startup and testing, and providing training (using PLC expertise).
  • Working on all aspects of I&C projects including instrument installation, calibrating, and commissioning; panel terminations, as-built markups, and testing; network terminations and testing; and instrumentation and panel training (as FAS Technicians).
  • Performing high-level systems troubleshooting and repair.
  • Installation and modification of integrated systems.
  • Providing internal and external technical support.
  • Performing basic PLC and HMI program modification, up/downloading, and function validation.
  • Receiving project requirements and direction through meetings with the Project Manager and review of contract documents.
  • Keeping PMs informed of the status of tasks and project milestones and maintaining awareness of project budgets.
  • Producing timely, accurate project documentation such as timesheets and trip reports.
  • Following established Best Practices and Development Standards and Procedures.
  • Setting up project system servers, workstations, operating system, networks, and peripheral equipment at the job site.
  • Producing the System Control Narrative, developing the HMI application per contract documents and customer needs, and programming PLCs according to the Control Narrative (as FAS Engineers).
  • Participating in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Commissioning control panels on the jobsite, including field signal wiring, panel wire terminations, input/output signal checkout, and field equipment interfacing.
  • Conducting system startups inclusive of PLC, HMI, instrumentation, and networking equipment/applications.
  • Demonstrating overall system functionality to the Owner/Engineer/Contractor.
  • Providing technical assistance and training to operators, supervisors, and administrative personnel.
  • Generating and gathering all required final project documentation.
  • Marking up control panel drawings with modifications to reflect actual field equipment interfaces.
  • Performing on-call service for customers as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Performing instrument installation and calibration services.
  • Performing any other duties necessary related to customer service or to achieve customer satisfaction.
