About The Position

As a Field Applications Specialist – Mass Spectrometry, you will be a key operational member of our Customer Support team, delivering high-touch technical and scientific execution for Roche’s automated mass spectrometry platform, the cobas i601, across customer laboratories in the region. In this role, you will focus on post-sales technical success—bringing new i601 placements from installation through validation and full go-live status. You will work in close partnership with Lead/Principal FAS colleagues on complex account rollouts, while independently managing standard assay implementations, customer training, regulatory compliance support, and advanced technical troubleshooting. This is a field-base role. Travel: Overnight travel within the designated region is expected > 50% of the time, based on customer training and implementation schedules. A company vehicle is provided with this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Cell Biology or Biochemistry, or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, and/or relevant experience
  • 3 years of previous experience in a clinical laboratory or IT in a clinical lab environment

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of practical experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting LC-MS/MS platforms within a clinical, diagnostic, or analytical laboratory environment.
  • Solid baseline understanding of mass spectrometry fundamentals (LC-MS/MS, ionization, chromatographic separation, sample preparation, and basic quantitation).
  • Strong technical communication skills with the ability to instruct lab staff clearly on complex analytical workflows
  • Certifications / Degrees: Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (ASCP/AMT), or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
  • Familiarity with clinical laboratory regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, CLSI guidelines) as applied to assay verification and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with automated liquid handling systems, integrated sample prep, or automated clinical chemistry/immunoassay analyzers.
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a team environment, partnering with senior team members, and taking direction on strategic account plans.
  • Strong analytical approach to resolving instrument and assay issues efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with the technical onboarding, setup, and assay implementation of cobas i601 systems in customer laboratories. Ensure the platform and automated sample handling meet strict technical and performance specifications.
  • Partner closely with Advanced Applications Specialist team members on large or complex customer accounts—executing on account strategies, assisting in comprehensive workflow builds, and providing reliable scientific support.
  • Guide laboratory personnel through day-to-day assay validation and verification protocols (CLSI, CAP, CLIA). Assist customers in generating data packages required to meet regulatory compliance standards.
  • Serve as a dedicated on-site resource for resolving operational, software, and assay performance issues. Conduct root-cause analysis on analytical anomalies (e.g., peak resolution, matrix interference, calibration drift) to minimize system downtime.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with bench technologists, supervisors, and lab managers to drive consistent system utilization and high customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Document product performance issues, user experience feedback, and workflow pain points, escalating trends to leads, technical support, and commercial teams.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records of all customer interactions, service activities, and technical cases. Complete administrative tasks (travel, expense reporting) in accordance with Roche guidelines.
