About The Position

The Fiberglass Technician will be responsible for laminating layers of fiberglass on molds to form parts. This role involves selecting precut fiberglass, mixing catalysts and resins, and ensuring smooth, bubble-free surfaces. The technician will also be responsible for trimming excess material, bonding reinforcements, and checking drawings for measurements.

• Ability to laminate layers of fiberglass on molds.
• Skill in selecting appropriate fiberglass materials.
• Proficiency in mixing catalysts and resins.
• Ability to smooth surfaces and remove air bubbles.
• Experience in bonding reinforcements to structures.
• Ability to cut hardened fiberglass.
• Familiarity with inspecting, cleaning, and assembling molds.
• Skill in applying wax to mold surfaces.
• Ability to check drawings for measurements.

Responsibilities

• Laminates layers of fiberglass on molds to form parts.
• Selects precut fiberglass mat and cloth according to part specifications.
• Places layers of mat and cloth in mold and smooths out wrinkles.
• Trims excess material from the mold.
• Mixes catalyst and resin and saturates mat and cloth with the mixture using a brush.
• Works saturated mat and cloth into the shape of the mold with hands and rollers to remove air bubbles and smooth surfaces.
• Bonds reinforcements to structures using resin-saturated fiberglass.
• Cuts hardened fiberglass from the mold with a trimming knife.
• Inspects, cleans, and assembles molds prior to starting work.
• Applies wax to the surface of the mold to facilitate assembly and removal of laminated parts.
• Checks drawings for measurements.
