About The Position

This role involves performing fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables in various environments, interpreting network designs, testing cables, troubleshooting issues, and installing connectors. The position requires preparing detailed reports, operating specialized equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and working independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines. Effective communication with supervisors, colleagues, and clients is essential, as is participation in on-call rotations for emergency repairs. Maintaining company vehicles and equipment is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber optic splicing and testing.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting fiber optic splice diagrams and schematics.
  • Demonstrated experience with fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, power meters, and light sources.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic theory, cable types, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments, including elevated heights, confined spaces, and remote locations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training or certification in fiber optics is highly preferred.
  • CDL may be required depending on location.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables (single-mode and multi-mode) in various environments (aerial, underground, and inside plant).
  • Interpret and understand fiber optic network designs, schematics, and splice diagrams.
  • Test fiber optic cables for continuity, loss, and reflectivity using OTDR, power meters, and light sources.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic cable breaks, damage, and connectivity issues.
  • Install and terminate fiber optic connectors, closures, and distribution panels.
  • Prepare detailed splice reports, test results, and as-built documentation.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized fiber optic equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including trenching and confined space protocols.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for emergency repairs as required.
  • Maintain company vehicles and equipment in good working order.
