About The Position

FiberTel, LLC is looking for a Fiber Splicer for our San Jose, CA market. The Fiber Splicer is a skilled telecommunications professional responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic networks in both aerial and underground outside plant (OSP) or inside plant (ISP) environments. This individual is expected to work independently, demonstrate technical expertise, and perform all duties associated with fiber optic splicing while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The Fiber Splicer may provide daily direction and on-the-job training to a Splicing Laborer or other field personnel, helping to ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with company and customer specifications. This position requires flexibility in work hours and may include on-call responsibilities, overtime, night work, and weekend assignments as needed to support project schedules and customer service requirements. The Fiber Splicer will regularly interact with customers, inspectors, utility representatives, and internal team members and is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while representing FiberTel in the field.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
  • Knowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers associated
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include nights and weekends
  • Understanding of terminology used in fiber splicing
  • Experience splicing fiber including all necessary steps
  • 2-3 years’ experience splicing fiber

Nice To Haves

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
  • Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
  • Able to perform all duties in fiber optic construction
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair fiber optics.
  • Assist in Fiber optic splicing
  • Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers
  • Flagging traffic when required
  • Flexibility to work in multiple locations
  • Prepare splice locations, termination points, and installation of splice closures
  • Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment daily
  • Splice loose tube fiber
  • Drive and properly use a bucket truck
  • Operate splicing equipment
  • Identify issues with fiber using red light
  • Construct proper splice cases
  • Submit daily time cards for crew members
  • Place a mid-sheath splice
  • Fill out audit sheets per location (per splice)
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Update job completion sheet
  • Pull fiber when needed
  • Complete cut sheet
  • Pre-Trip vehicle inspection (daily)
  • Ability to work at night /various hours.
