Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience splicing high-density fiber optic trunk cables with fiber counts well beyond basic low-count installations, up to and including 3,456 fiber strand cables.
  • Industry certification from FOA, ETA International, or BICSI in fiber optic installation and/or splicing (CFOT, CFOS/S, FOT, or Installer 2 Optical Fiber).
  • Fujikura factory training certification or equivalent manufacturer-level splicer training, with verified field experience on high-density fiber trunk cable installations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pitch conversion and ribbonization of loose-tube fiber cable using UV-cure matrix tooling, ribbon stripping tools, and V-groove array blocks at specified center-to-center spacing tolerances.
  • Execute single-fiber and mass ribbon fusion splicing on high-density trunk cables up to 3,456 fiber strands using Fujikura 90R, 90RS, and 90RS Plus fusion splicers, including splice tray organization and pigtail termination within splice enclosures.
  • Terminate fiber assemblies to patch panels with proper routing and bend radius management, verifying endface quality via inspection microscopy prior to connector mating.
  • Test and certify completed fiber links using OTDRs, power meters, and light sources, verifying splice loss values and total link insertion loss against project specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve fiber faults including high-loss splices and cable breaks, utilizing OTDR trace analysis to pinpoint fault locations.
  • Maintain complete project documentation including splice loss records, OTDR traces, as-built cable records, and corrective action logs.
  • Supervise and coordinate a team of fiber optic technicians across active projects, managing workflow and ensuring work is completed on schedule and to specification.
