About The Position

Nexans is seeking a Fiber Optic Technician to work within a high-voltage submarine power cable manufacturing environment. In this role, you will handle fiber systems integrated into complex insulation and shielding structures under strict electrical, thermal, and mechanical conditions. You will perform splicing, handling, and testing under controlled processes with a strong focus on quality, traceability, and accuracy. Your responsibilities will include supporting both production and quality functions by ensuring fiber integrity throughout manufacturing, verifying incoming materials, executing precision splicing, and performing advanced optical testing including OTDR analysis. You will also connect and maintain monitoring systems during production processes and interpret measurement data to identify and troubleshoot issues in embedded fiber systems.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic principles including splicing, attenuation, and loss mechanisms
  • Hands-on experience with fiber splicing and OTDR testing
  • Ability to interpret advanced optical measurements beyond basic pass/fail criteria
  • Skilled in precision fiber handling and use of specialized tools
  • High attention to detail and adherence to quality standards
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Willingness to learn specialized processes in a controlled environment
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Good color vision

Nice To Haves

  • Prior fiber optic experience strongly preferred
  • Technical aptitude and manual skill considered
  • Experience in manufacturing, lab, or quality-controlled environments preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-precision fusion splicing in accordance with specialized procedures
  • Conduct advanced optical testing, including OTDR, for incoming inspection and final validation
  • Analyze OTDR traces and measurement data to detect defects and performance issues
  • Generate detailed and traceable test reports
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic equipment
  • Develop and update procedures and work instructions
  • Manage inventory and condition of tools and initiate replacement or procurement as needed
