About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and testing of telecommunications services in residential and field environments. This position involves hands-on fiber splicing, customer premise installations, troubleshooting, and working independently in the field while maintaining a high level of customer service and safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Fiber optic installation and splicing
  • Fiber optic cable handling
  • Wiring and telecommunications installation
  • OTDR testing and troubleshooting
  • Use of fiber test equipment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Telecommunications experience preferred (Fiber Optic, CATV, or Telephone)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and management
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Familiarity with industry terminology, procedures, and equipment
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces
  • Ability to work from ladders while using required hand tools
  • Ability to tolerate environmental conditions associated with field and confined space work

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Basic understanding of service order flow and installation processes
  • IPTV and ADSL installation or repair experience
  • Familiarity with RUS and company construction standards and specifications
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic electricity knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Splice and terminate fiber optic cable according to standard procedures and company, governmental, and electrical specifications.
  • Test, measure, and troubleshoot fiber optic signal strength from street to customer premise using appropriate test equipment.
  • Install telecommunications services by identifying and connecting correct cables at vaults and taps.
  • Install temporary drops when applicable, inside wiring, and fiber optic equipment at the customer premise.
  • Connect wireless devices and test services to ensure proper functionality.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, outside technical staff, coworkers, supervisors, and management.
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Operate hand tools such as drills and saws, as well as test equipment including Optical Power Meters (OPM) and Volt Ohm Meters (VOM).
  • Maintain vaults and taps as required and report any maintenance or repair needs to supervision.
  • Travel to job sites as needed using a company vehicle while complying with traffic laws, safety rules, and best practices.
  • Access cable, pedestals, and equipment by climbing ladders, entering crawl spaces and attics, walking through uneven terrain, and digging when required.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition.
  • Accurately complete required documentation including time, mileage, fuel, material usage, and equipment charge-outs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
