Fiber Engineer

Gigapower•Las Vegas, NV

About The Position

The Fiber Engineer plans, designs, and analyzes outside plant (OSP) fiber facilities and networks, including feeder and distribution builds. The role reviews high-level and low-level designs and produces construction-ready engineering designs for major fiber deployment projects. It also supports construction activities, contractor and field coordination, job costing, expenditure tracking, construction budget coordination, project management, and right-of-way functions as needed. The successful candidate develops practical, cost-effective engineering solutions while exercising sound judgment and managing competing priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight. Gigapower encourages employees to adopt emerging technologies and use AI tools in their daily work; this role applies AI-enabled tools to improve design efficiency, reporting, cost analysis, and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Experience with fiber testing and troubleshooting, such as OTDR.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and analyze OSP fiber networks, including feeder and distribution facilities, for major fiber build projects.
  • Review High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) for constructability, accuracy, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Produce detailed feeder and distribution engineering designs for large-scale fiber deployment and expansion projects.
  • Support OSP construction activities, including contractor oversight and field coordination, to ensure designs are executed as intended.
  • Conduct job costing and monitor project expenditures against authorized levels.
  • Investigate cost overruns and variances and develop supplemental documentation and recommendations.
  • Coordinate construction budgets and support project management activities as assigned.
  • Support and, when required, manage right-of-way (ROW) functions and related compliance activities.
