About The Position

The candidate will operate a fiber draw tower for Specialty Fiber manufacturing within Corning Optical Communications (COC) Applied Research and Development (AR&D) including: startup, monitoring, and shutdown of the fiber draw, wareflow management, collection of data from draw process, data analysis, and equipment maintenance and/or modifications. Candidate will work with a range of personnel including operations and research and development (R&D).

Requirements

Associates Degree in a technical field, or equivalent strong Math/Science background and relevant experience.
Minimum of 3 years experience in technician roles.
Familiarity with Draw and/or Fiber Processing areas or other optical fiber manufacturing
Strong Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
Previous technician or operator experience with manufacturing equipment and processes.
Experience working in a manufacturing setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel; with the ability and willingness to learn new software or programs
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work at heights up to 18 feet

Nice To Haves

Documentation and/or technical report writing experience
Willingness to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of processes

Responsibilities

Operating and maintaining fiber draw equipment.
Works with Fibermaking teams focused on Specialty Fiber manufacturing
Works collaboratively with Specialty Fiber team to improve product yields develop new processes & products for transfer.
Understands equipment used in key processes and interprets data from processes to solve problems.
Provides inputs to production planners that identify resources and accurate timelines
