About The Position

Under the direction of the Ultrasound Team Leader, performs a variety of complex technical tasks in Fetal Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to detect anatomical abnormalities in accordance with prescribed sonographic procedures, assist physician as needed and performs at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Technical Diploma Ultrasound - Required
  • At least five (5) years maternal fetal medicine/obstetrical ultrasound experience - Required
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography - OBGYN Specialty - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - upon hire - Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - BLS Certification issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
  • Knowledge of all types of OB/GYN ultrasound imaging, and maternal fetal medicine imaging and procedures (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (Required proficiency)
  • Provides Family Centered Care (Required proficiency)
  • Integrates knowledge and assessment of patient and family (Age- Specific Competency) (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work independent of supervision (Required proficiency)
  • Good organizational skills (Required proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Performs all Ultrasound techniques and examinations according to the procedures determined by the physicians.
  • Selects proper transducer and application for the specified type of ultrasound exam.
  • Produces optimal sonographic images for diagnostic interpretation 100% of the time.
  • Selects proper technical factors and operates US equipment as directed 100% of the time.
  • Assists physician in interpretation of complex fetal anomalies, documents pertinent information on appropriate worksheets as illustrated by Fetal Ultrasound Protocols.
  • Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards to ensure the well-being of patients, hospital personnel, general public and self while performing duties 100% of the time.
  • Maintains constant attention to patient assigned to sonographer for the examination 100% of the time.
  • Assists the physician as necessary during outpatient invasive procedures and operating room procedures; supply the physician with appropriate equipment necessary for such procedures.
  • Assist in scheduling patients if necessary in a manner to promote workflow efficiency.
  • Maintains records of exams.
  • Responsible for proper identification on images including patient identification and patient demographics 100% of the time.
  • Maintains appropriate records of examination 100% of the time.
  • Maintains the integrity and efficiency of the Radiology Information System 100% of the time.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Department’s Picture Archiving System as applicable to ultrasound.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner.
  • Refers to the Fetal Ultrasound Team Leader and/or Radiology Director of Clinical Operations for any unresolved problems relating to staffing, morale, work methods, discipline and other activities 100% of the time.
  • Promotes professionalism, continuing education and staff development 100% of the time.
  • Participates in the formal in-service program provided for Radiology Complex.
  • Assists in preparation of lectures and/or publications relating to Fetal US within and outside the institution; if requested by the Team Leader or one of the physicians.
  • Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position.
  • Completes all mandatory education required by hospital
  • Obtains 10 CE credits/year or 30 credits/3 years as required by the ARDMS
  • Obtains 12 CE credits/year or 24 credits/2 years as required by the ARRT, if also registered in another modality by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • Maintains training and competency in high-level disinfection procedures as outlined by the Department of Infection Control and Radiology
