About The Position

CFC Recycling is seeking a dependable, safety-minded Ferrous Material Inspector to join our team in Gallatin, TN. The Ferrous Material Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming and outgoing ferrous scrap materials, identifying material types and grades, detecting non-conforming or prohibited materials, and helping ensure that material meets company and customer specifications. The ideal candidate is attentive to detail, comfortable working outdoors in an industrial recycling environment, and able to make accurate decisions regarding the quality and classification of ferrous materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in scrap metal recycling, steel, manufacturing, construction, waste/recycling, or a related industrial environment.
  • Experience with ferrous scrap grades and material specifications.
  • Experience operating or working around heavy equipment.
  • Previous quality-control or material-inspection experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming ferrous scrap and recycled metal materials for type, grade, quality, and overall condition.
  • Identify and separate ferrous materials based on established specifications and material grades.
  • Inspect loads for non-ferrous materials, contaminants, prohibited items, and other materials that may affect quality or value.
  • Verify that materials meet CFC Recycling and customer specifications.
  • Communicate material quality concerns and discrepancies to supervisors, scale personnel, production employees, and other appropriate team members.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving issues involving misclassified or contaminated loads.
  • Monitor material processing areas for proper sorting and quality control.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation as required.
  • Follow established procedures for handling rejected, contaminated, or questionable material.
  • Work closely with equipment operators and other yard personnel to maintain efficient material flow.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection/work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and environmental procedures.
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
