About The Position

The FEMA Debris Monitor plays a critical role in supporting disaster recovery efforts by overseeing and documenting debris removal operations to ensure compliance with federal regulations and guidelines. This position involves working closely with contractors, local officials, and FEMA representatives to verify that debris removal activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards. The Debris Monitor is responsible for accurately tracking debris quantities, types, and disposal methods to facilitate proper reimbursement and reporting. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work in dynamic, often challenging environments following natural disasters. Ultimately, the Debris Monitor helps ensure that communities can recover more quickly and that federal funds are used appropriately and effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physically inspect debris sites.
  • Basic knowledge of debris management and disaster recovery processes.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using mobile devices and software applications for data collection and reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in disaster recovery, emergency management, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with FEMA policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor debris removal operations on-site to verify that work is performed according to FEMA guidelines and contractual agreements.
  • Document and report daily debris quantities, types, and disposal methods using standardized forms and digital tools.
  • Coordinate with contractors, local government officials, and FEMA personnel to resolve issues and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess debris removal progress and identify any potential hazards or non-compliance.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records to support reimbursement requests and audit processes.
