About The Position

Legal Aid Chicago is seeking candidates to host their Skadden or Equal Justice Works Fellowship applications. This opportunity is for individuals who will be a 3L, recent law grad, or judicial clerk in the fall of 2026. Legal Aid Chicago has provided free civil legal assistance to people living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago for over 50 years, resolving civil legal problems such as domestic violence, consumer fraud, and unfair evictions. The organization is committed to ensuring that poverty is not an impediment to justice by dismantling legal barriers that perpetuate inequality. Requirements

  • Experience with, or demonstrated commitment to, civil legal services.
  • Excellent research, writing, and court advocacy skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting.
  • Personal or professional experience with, or other demonstrated commitment to the communities served, including people living in poverty.
  • An Illinois law license or the ability to become licensed in Illinois.
  • At least two years of completed law school credit at an ABA accredited school.
  • Will be a 3L, recent law grad, or judicial clerk in the fall of 2026.

  • Preliminary ideas for a fellowship proposal.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a fellowship proposal in areas where Legal Aid Chicago practices.
  • Provide free civil legal assistance to individuals in need.
  • Work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary setting.
