About The Position

This is a part-time role where the Feedyard Penrider will attend to cattle in a 16,000 head capacity feed yard. The primary responsibility involves riding on horseback through feed yard pens to observe cattle for diseases and injuries, and to assist in doctoring and processing of cattle. The role also includes attending to cattle, performing water and pen repairs, and general feed yard maintenance. The individual will operate other equipment as needed and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

Good working knowledge of cattle health, cattle handling, horsemanship, and feed yard operations.
Ability to ride pens on horseback daily to monitor cattle health in all weather conditions.
Ability to cut out sick cattle from pens and move groups of cattle in and out of the feed yard.
Ability to perform other feed yard duties as needed including processing incoming cattle and doctoring sick cattle.
Ability to operate a tractor.
Ability to operate a feed truck on occasion.
Self-starter and able to work alone in a safe manner with unpredictable cattle.
Valid driver’s license in good standing.
Ability to be an approved driver for the company.
Ability to safely operate vehicles.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience with an agricultural background or a comparable field of study through formal education.
