Feeding Assistant Part-Time
About The Position
Visalia Post Acute is seeking compassionate and dependable Feeding Assistants to join our team. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about helping residents during mealtimes while promoting dignity, safety, and quality of care. The Feeding Assistant provides dining assistance to residents who do not have complicated feeding problems and who have been approved by the interdisciplinary team for participation in the Feeding Assistant Program. Feeding Assistants work under the supervision of licensed nursing staff to ensure residents receive safe, respectful, and supportive assistance during meals.
Requirements
- Must successfully complete the facility’s state-approved 8-hour Feeding Assistant Training Program before independently assisting residents
- Feeding Assistants cannot assist residents with complicated feeding problems, including: Difficulty swallowing, Recurrent lung aspirations, Tube or IV feedings
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous healthcare or caregiving experience preferred
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to follow instructions and facility policies
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with dining and hydration needs during meals
- Utilize proper feeding techniques learned through state-approved training
- Encourage resident independence and dignity during mealtimes
- Observe and report changes in eating patterns or resident condition to nursing staff
- Record resident meal intake accurately after meals
- Follow infection control and safe food handling practices
- Respond appropriately to resident behaviors and needs
- Maintain a calm, positive, and respectful dining environment
- Work under the supervision of an RN or LVN/LPN
- Follow facility safety and emergency procedures, including Heimlich maneuver protocols
