About The Position

The Feed Mill Receiving Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient receipt, inspection, handling, and transfer of bulk, tote, and bagged ingredients used in feed manufacturing. This position plays a critical role in maintaining ingredient quality, inventory accuracy, feed safety standards, and operational efficiency. The Receiving Operator works closely with production, quality assurance, maintenance, and transportation personnel to ensure ingredients are received, documented, stored, and utilized in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.

  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency call-ins as operational needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in agriculture, feed manufacturing, grain handling, warehousing, or industrial production preferred.
  • Forklift or heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of agricultural commodities and feed ingredients preferred.
  • Knowledge of feed safety, quality assurance, and inventory control principles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming bulk ingredients, transfer bulk ingredients, and dump tote and bagged ingredients as required by feed mill operations.
  • Verify incoming shipments against bills of lading, receiving tickets, and purchase orders.
  • Check, sign, and file unloading slips; accurately record all receiving information in designated logs and computer systems.
  • Manage ingredient flow through all receiving pits and receiving equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages, discrepancies, or inventory concerns to management.
  • Assist with inventory counts and audits as required.
  • Collect representative samples of all incoming ingredients according to established procedures.
  • Inspect ingredients for quality, condition, contamination, foreign material, moisture concerns, or other abnormalities.
  • Properly label, store, and maintain retained samples in accordance with company quality assurance programs.
  • Report ingredient quality issues immediately to the Feed Mill Manager or Quality Control personnel.
  • Follow all feed safety, biosecurity, and quality assurance programs, including GMPs and HACCP-related procedures as applicable.
  • Transfer ingredients to appropriate storage locations, bins, or production systems.
  • Stage and dump tote and bagged ingredients according to production schedules and formulas.
  • Operate receiving equipment, conveyors, augers, forklifts, skid steers, or other material handling equipment as authorized and trained.
  • Coordinate ingredient movement to minimize downtime and support efficient feed production.
  • Clean receiving pits, unloading areas, and equipment following receipt of each ingredient.
  • Dispose of trash and waste materials in designated containers and trash compactor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of unloading pits, ingredient storage areas, and trash compactor area.
  • Perform routine inspections of receiving equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with minor repairs and preventative maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space requirements, and PPE requirements.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment concerns immediately.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and training programs.
  • Work closely with the Feed Mill Manager, Lead Operator, Quality Control personnel, maintenance staff, fleet personnel, and office staff.
  • Communicate ingredient issues, inventory concerns, and operational challenges in a timely manner.
  • Support team members and assist in other areas of the mill as needed to achieve production goals.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Crosstrain in other feed mill functions to provide operational support and coverage.
  • Participate in company meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
