About The Position

JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey in order to interest girls to study and potentially become employed in jobs in STEM related professions. All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions. JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey. Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda. Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in college or grad school, while majoring in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, education).
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and software applications.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching or mentoring students in a STEM-related subject area is a plus

Responsibilities

• Delivering in-person interactive and hands-on lessons in STEM subjects.
• Providing guidance and support to students during classroom workshops, and events.
• Collaborating with other instructors, volunteers, and staff to develop and improve curriculum materials and program content.
• Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
