About The Position

The Federal Work Study Library Aide will support the general daily operations of the library, provide public service to students, faculty, and staff who utilize library resources for personal study and professional development. This role involves providing support to patrons in-person and by phone, managing the circulation desk operations, addressing issues regarding patron fees, coding materials, establishing and updating patron records, and checking materials in and out. Responsibilities

  • Provides public service and performs a variety of duties related to the operation at ArtU’s Architecture Collection.
  • Works with the integrated library system (Sierra by Innovative Interfaces, Inc.) and performs routine clerical work as assigned.
  • Checks materials in and out.
  • Reads shelves for correct order of books; places books and other material on shelves in proper alphabetical or numerical sequence.
  • Registers borrowers and updates borrowers’ records.
  • Carries out and explains circulation policies and procedures to patrons.
  • Assists patrons with access to reserve materials.
  • Handles library opening and closing procedures.
  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail when working on library tasks.
  • Troubleshoots basic problems with library equipment, including computers (Mac and PC), scanners, copiers, and printers.
  • Assists patrons with basic computer functions and programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Preview, and Photoshop.
  • Performs ad hoc projects such as shelving, inventory, and other general library duties as assigned.
  • Cooperates in a teamwork fashion with all coworkers and provides excellent customer service to all library patrons.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Assisting with the library calendar: Scheduling events, meetings, and appointments.
  • Creating visually appealing designs & displays: Designing flyers, posters, brochures, and other marketing materials using platforms like Canva.
