About The Position

This internship offers a unique opportunity to be treated like an entry-level staff member, contributing to the financial health of organizations by assuring their financial stability. Interns will have the flexibility to craft business solutions beyond spreadsheets. The role involves consulting on tax planning strategies, reviewing opportunities to optimize income and deductions, evaluating tax planning strategies based on legislative and market developments, researching technical positions, drafting memos, assisting with federal tax consulting projects across various industries and taxation types, identifying tax planning opportunities, and developing practical recommendations for clients. Interns will also support National Tax Office professionals with technical research and analysis of tax developments, and engage in meaningful interactions with staff and clients, deepening knowledge in tax and tax consulting.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented individual with strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and research skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to develop deep technical tax knowledge.
  • Strong interest in federal taxation, tax consulting, and technical tax research.
  • Ability to analyze complex tax matters and communicate findings clearly and professionally.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation.
  • Intention to pursue CPA licensure.
  • Academic success (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0).
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, with the exception of qualified candidates who are bilingual in either Japanese and English or Chinese and English.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coursework in federal income taxation, corporate taxation, partnership taxation, or advanced tax topics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting on tax planning strategies to achieve business and individual tax objectives
  • Reviewing opportunities to optimize the timing of tax income and deductions through accounting method planning.
  • Evaluating tax planning strategies resulting from legislation, regulations, and market developments.
  • Researching technical positions and drafting memos and other position papers for a variety of federal tax matters.
  • Assisting with federal tax consulting projects involving corporate, partnership, and individual taxation across all industries.
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and developing practical recommendations for clients.
  • Assisting National Tax Office professionals with technical research and analysis of legislative, regulatory, and administrative tax developments.
  • Engaging in meaningful interactions with staff at all levels, as well as with clients.
  • Deepening knowledge in tax and tax consulting through exposure to both service lines.
