About The Position

UPS is seeking a Federal Policy Fellow to join its Global Public Affairs team in Washington, D.C. This one-year fellowship offers high-performing undergraduate students, and recent bachelor’s degree graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in federal public policy, government affairs, advocacy, and business strategy. Working alongside UPS’s advocacy team, the Fellow will research policy issues affecting the company and its customers, support engagement with federal government and industry stakeholders, and help advance UPS’s public policy priorities. The fellowship is designed for candidates who want to translate academic learning into practical experience, build a professional network in Washington, and develop skills applicable to careers in government, corporate public affairs, public policy, and nonprofit advocacy.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will be in their final year of undergraduate study or have recently earned a bachelor's degree in the last 2 years in public policy, political science, government, economics, business, communications, international relations, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in federal policy, government relations, legislative affairs, or corporate public affairs.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, work independently, and collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or campus leadership experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze federal legislative, regulatory, and administrative developments affecting UPS, its employees, customers, and operations.
  • Support policy work related to transportation, infrastructure, workforce, sustainability, tax, trade, customs, supply chains, and emerging technologies.
  • Draft policy briefs, presentations, talking points, executive summaries, and meeting materials.
  • Monitor congressional hearings, federal agency activity, political developments, and relevant industry news.
  • Attend hearings, policy forums, stakeholder meetings, and industry events, then prepare concise written summaries.
  • Assist with stakeholder mapping, coalition engagement, and government relations outreach.
  • Support public affairs communications and policy-related content.
