About The Position

KEB seeks a staff member to support KEB’s management consulting practice in providing fiscal and programmatic technical assistance to state and local entities receiving federal and state grants under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014. This role reports to KEB’s consulting manager and will assist in delivering compliance, accounting, and analytical support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliations and systematically identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, trace errors, and rebalance accounts, including backtracking discrepancies to source transactions.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when working with numerical data.
  • Working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, federal and state compliance requirements, including interpreting and applying regulatory guidance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, data tables, and basic data visualization tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and general office applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings and communicate with team members.
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn WIOA regulations, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and related compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to take direction from experienced fiscal leadership and apply feedback to improve performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or coursework related to governmental or nonprofit accounting.
  • Exposure to grant accounting, auditing, or compliance environments.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping or accounting software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of financial controls and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing grant funds.
  • Support activities related to the acceptance, maintenance, disbursement, and accounting of federal grant funds.
  • Prepare and assist with financial and grant reporting, including gathering, validating, and organizing supporting documentation.
  • Perform account reconciliations and assist in identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Support the review of cost allowability, reasonableness, and allocation methodologies under federal guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of cost allocation plans and indirect cost rate documentation.
  • Provide support for grant closeout processes, including reconciliation and documentation review.
  • Assist with fiscal monitoring activities of grantees and sub-grantees, including preparation of workpapers and documentation.
  • Support reconstruction and cleanup of financial data and accounting systems when necessary.
  • Utilize accounting systems and Excel-based tools to analyze financial data and identify trends or issues.
  • Understand the coordination of WIOA program and fiscal requirements and procedures, and support KEB’s consulting team on special projects.
  • Assist in developing tools, templates, and guidance documents for workforce entities.
  • Perform other analytical and administrative tasks to support KEB’s consulting services.
  • Support other compliance-related engagements as needed.
