About The Position

Eaton’s North American Sales Division is currently seeking a Federal Applications Engineer to join its team. This position can be located in Hanover, MD; Moon Township, PA; or Raleigh, NC. Only candidates within these areas will be considered. This exciting opportunity provides exposure to technical sales within the federal government market while supporting advanced power distribution solutions. It offers hands-on collaboration with engineering experts and direct involvement in influencing product specifications and customer adoption. The District Application Engineer-In-Training (A-EIT) is a consultative, technical sales professional responsible for supporting electrical consultants, designers, end users and specifiers that serve United States federal government market. The Application Engineer-In-Training must possess both strong technical and commercial skills and be experienced in low voltage electrical power distribution and control systems typically applied in these markets. The primary function of the Application Engineer-In-Training is to achieve acceptability of Eaton’s Electrical products in the marketplace, while providing technical support for sales engineers, outside rep agencies, and to both internal and external customers. This position is responsible for collaborating with electrical consultants and specifying engineers to assist in the application, layout and specification of low voltage power distribution systems. This position will work alongside and under the direction of a District Application Engineer or Senior Application Engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum five (5) years of electrical sales and/or electrical engineering experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license
  • No relocation assistance will be provided for this role. Candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of either Hanover, MD; Moon Township, PA; Raleigh NC. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation

  • This position requires access to export-controlled information. Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Knowledgeable of Eaton Electrical products, services, and competitive offerings
  • Technical knowledge regarding the application of low voltage power distribution and control products including low voltage switchgear, motor control centers, panelboards and switchboards, and busway.
  • Foundational knowledge on some or all the following products and applications: Three-phase UPS systems, power monitoring products including metering and software, and power control products including low-voltage drives.
  • Capability to write technical specifications for new projects in a manner that will put Eaton in an advantageous position when the project is bid.
  • Effective communication skills. Ability to communicate with all skill levels internally and externally and manage through long term relationships and influence.
  • Proficiency in conveying technical concepts through effective presentation and training skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to address complex technical application issues.
  • Solid understanding of the US Power Distribution market.
  • Initiative and self-management skills
  • Excellent client/customer facing skills: Ability to effectively represent Eaton’s electrical portfolio and to articulate Eaton’s value propositions.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Lead Eaton technical pre-sale application and technical support with selected consulting firms within assigned sales geographies to better position Eaton related products in a preferred position.
  • Work with select United States federal government end users to gain acceptance and promote Eaton products.
  • Provide strategic technical support of the sales teams in the assigned sales geographies.
  • Conduct product seminars and training on Eaton products and solutions to selected consultants, specifiers, end users, channel partners, and sales engineers.
  • Assist District Application Engineer in working with product divisions on the development of tools and literature focused on power system designers and provide voice-of-customer input to drive product development.
  • Provide technical application support on target projects with lead District Application Engineer including drawing reviews, contributions to sales pursuit strategies, and through interface with key stakeholders involved in the design and specification of the power distribution and control systems.
  • Work with the District Application Engineer to support and gain experience with complex power system designs such as medium voltage power distribution / control and substation systems.
  • Actively engage in mentorship and development activities to enhance technical skills and knowledge, while contributing to the growth and success of the sales team.
