About The Position

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking candidates to fill the position of Fatherhood Outreach Specialist 3. This role is part of the Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) and focuses on enhancing the well-being of children by promoting non-custodial parental involvement. The position is hybrid, based at Wiregrass Technical College and the Valdosta DCSS office. The DCSS program aims to increase non-custodial parental involvement in a child's life through various outreach initiatives, including Fatherhood, Prison Re-Entry, and Parental Accountability Court programs. This role establishes and enforces child support obligations, coordinates with legal and public organizations, and communicates with clients to ensure obligations are met. It may also involve managing a caseload and supervising other case managers or serving as a team leader.

Requirements

  • Experience working with state, local, or federal government
  • Work experience involving mentoring and coaching
  • Ability to work independently
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, good judgement and decision-making abilities to monitor and manage a caseload to ensure that child support obligations are met
  • Ability to use customer service skills to include active listening and negotiation ability
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or standard
  • High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of direct job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Fatherhood Outreach Spc 2 (SST101) or position equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of relevant experience (such as human services or legal services case management work experience)
  • High School diploma or GED and three (3) years relevant experience (such as human services or legal services case management work experience)
  • Two (2) years’ experience at the lower-level Child Support Services Agent 2 (SST061) or position equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Establishes child support obligations and ensures that such obligations are met.
  • Coordinates child support activities with legal, judicial and public organizations and conducts administrative hearings.
  • Communicate with clients and other constituents via telephone, email correspondence and direct contact to ensure that support obligations are met.
  • Manages a caseload to ensure that child support obligations are met.
  • Supervises other case managers or serves as a team leader, as required.
  • Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
