About The Position

The Father Support Specialist builds partnerships with fathers and professionals. The Father Support Specialist is committed to promoting a non-judgmental and respectful attitude when working with fathers and families, assisting them with their plan goals through empowerment, education and skill-building activities that increase confidence in parenting their children.

Requirements

  • Must have skills necessary to engage and work with others from diverse ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic typing/computer processing skills.
  • Must have good organization and time management skills.
  • Must have High School Diploma or G.E.D. or in the process of obtaining.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to obtain fingerprint clearance through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance and dependable transportation.
  • Must have capacity to work flexible hours including some evening/weekend availability based on the needs of the family served.
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50 percent of the time in assigned geographic area.
  • Must be able to drive to father/families’ homes, community events, and meetings at service provider offices or schools.
  • Read, understand and abide by Family Involvement Policies and Procedures, Employee Handbook and Training Expectations.
  • Be familiar with the RBHA Provider Manual.
  • Must be able to take on multiple job roles and tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support to fathers and families.
  • Assist fathers in achieving their stated goals.
  • Deliver education and activities that meet needs, build on strengths and achieve outcomes.
  • Support fathers as a peer parent, someone with common experiences and to assist with partnering with other child-serving agencies in the community.
  • Participate with fathers and the family in forming and maintaining effective individualized service plans.
  • Offer support and encouragement to fathers and families in their homes, the community and/or training at the Family Involvement Center.
  • Promote the individual family culture through individual strength-based support services.
  • Build partnerships with professionals through non-adversarial advocacy.
  • Collaborate with other individuals involved in providing support and care to fathers and families receiving services.
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate, supporting fathers in communicating their needs and accomplishments.
  • Meet productivity, quality and supervision standards as determined by Program Manager.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and evaluation of the service plan.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal staff, community resources and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate empathy and clarity to the father and encourage collaboration in working with family, and service plan.
  • Responsible for understanding; adhering to all internal policies & procedures and training expectations.
  • Attend at minimum, bi-monthly individual supervision with Program Manager.
  • Meet all training requirements in expected timeframes as determined by Program Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
