About The Position

Vogel, a leader in providing high-quality early childhood care and education to families in need, is seeking a dedicated Farm-to-Table Garden Coordinator to join their team. This role will lead Vogel's signature garden program, focusing on planning, cultivating, harvesting, and improving food production gardens to supply fresh produce to the kitchen and serve the children and families. The coordinator will also help maintain beautiful, engaging outdoor learning environments for young learners. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience in horticulture, agriculture, greenhouse operations, landscaping, or garden management.
  • Solid understanding of sustainable gardening practices.
  • Ability to safely operate gardening equipment and hand tools.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Demonstrates compassion, patience, and respect for the children and families Vogel serves.
  • Takes pride in maintaining accurate records and keeping garden spaces looking their best at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing edible crops is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an annual Garden Production Plan and seasonal planting calendars.
  • Create crop rotation schedules and establish measurable production and harvest goals.
  • Maximize production from all garden beds, orchard areas, greenhouse space, and growing systems.
  • Grow vegetables, herbs, fruits, edible flowers, and other approved crops for Vogel's kitchen.
  • Maintain healthy soil through composting and sustainable growing practices.
  • Operate and maintain greenhouse production and monitor irrigation systems.
  • Monitor plant health and manage pests using environmentally responsible, child-safe practices.
  • Harvest produce at peak quality and deliver to the Vogel kitchen following food safety procedures.
  • Maintain all gardens in a clean, organized, attractive, and visitor-ready condition.
  • Meet regularly with the Food Service Director to review seasonal menu needs and align crop plans with kitchen demand.
  • Coordinate weekly harvest schedules and identify opportunities to expand Farm-to-Table offerings.
  • Minimize food waste through thoughtful production planning and evaluate annual production to recommend improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive garden logs including crop calendars, harvest logs, yield records, greenhouse and compost logs, and maintenance records.
  • Track and document crops planted, harvest dates, pounds harvested, produce delivered to the kitchen, and seasonal production trends.
  • Prepare monthly production reports for the Senior Director of Operations.
  • Maintain weed-free planting beds, healthy growing areas, clean walkways, and organized greenhouse and compost systems.
  • Maintain attractive, informative signage covering seasonal crops, harvest schedules, and educational information for families and visitors.
  • Ensure the garden is always ready for donor tours, volunteers, community partners, and special events.
  • Maintain children's garden areas, sensory gardens, pollinator gardens, vegetable gardens, and nature exploration areas.
  • Prepare garden spaces for classroom use when requested and coordinate with Early Childhood Education Directors on maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with seasonal improvements to outdoor learning environments.
  • After primary garden responsibilities are complete, assist the Facility Manager with assigned work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform minor building repairs, painting, light carpentry, furniture assembly, and organization of storage rooms.
  • Support event setup and breakdown, playground inspections, deliveries, and campus improvement projects.
  • Maintain exterior appearance outside of production gardens.
